Steve is a visionary artist who often paints on Horn
Island where Walter Anderson created much of his work. His
chosen medium: colored pencil on paper. Critics have called
his technique "very impressive. The work is very obsessive
and there's a ranting quality to the text". He does
paintings ranging in size from 8 x 10 to 8 feet x 12 feet.
Steve has been featured in RAW VISION Magazine. He has won
scores of awards for his art including a fellowship from the
Southern Arts Federation and the National Endowment for the
Arts. His work has been included in dozens of museum
exhibitions in the South including the Southeastern Center
for Contemporary Art, The Mobile Museum of Art, The Morris
Museum, The Mississippi Museum of Art, etc. He won "Best of
Show" at the famed Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. He is
also included in the permanent collection of the Hurn Museum
of Contemporary Folk Art.
